Some tips from Ermanno regarding long distance links
From Nepalwireless-workshop
Sebastian: What dishes did you use in the world record link?
Ermanno: I did not buy it, used one that had been aquired for satellite use and changed the feed. There are plenty of these second hand, that can be bought cheaply. A brand new should cost around $600 but the transportation cost are very significant.
For the grid parabole,
I used this one:

That costs USD 430 , nowadays. I paid 340$ back then for a 32 dBi. Transportation cost is less because is shipped in two parts, assembly is very easy. But there are problems with snow accumulating in the grid which hinders performance
If one works at 5GHz, the cost of the antenna drops considerably, I´ve seen 32 dBi solid dish (1.5m diameter) for less than 200$ with dual polarization, 150$ with single polarization.
More dishes at good price here... http://www.wlanparts.com/category/antennas_5ghz/
in http://www.titanwirelessonline.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=35 they have 27 dBi for USD 73 at 2.4 GHz At 5 GHz, a 32 dBi for USD 73...
Enjoy the scenery for me,
Best Regards,
Ermanno
